Otay Plan Update Moves Forward
The Otay Mesa Community Plan Update is once again under way, with a modified proposal that still includes homes in industrial areas. While this modified plan eliminates a proposed village between Airway and La Media, it still proposes homes alongside Britannia and State Route-905. To complicate things more, the access proposed for residents is a major truck route: Britannia Blvd. The Chamber is making three recommendations to the City to prevent the collocation problems we have in Barrio Logan:
1) Create a separate transportation access for residents.
2) Protect industry/existing businesses from any and all mitigation costs, reduced hours of operation and truck deliveries resulting from introducing sensitive receptors to an existing industrially zoned area where none currently exist.
3) Ensure the community can comment on all specific residential projects. The plan as proposed, allows a particular development to be streamlined with the plan and does not allow any opportunity to provide input from the community.
The Environmental Impact Report has been released and can be found on the City website. Comments are due by October 25th. The Chamber Board sent the enclosed letter to the City Council and will be sending comments related to the EIR. A proposed Land Use and Housing Committee is scheduled for October 23rd.
